Problem entering service request for a transfer of licence.

I'm trying to create a service request to transfer one of my licenses to a different computer.  I fill in all the fields and click "Submit" and a busy wheel starts spinning and never stops, and the service request never gets generated.

Difference in isntalling on Win7 and Win81

Hello Folks,

has anyone experienced a difference using the install program to generate a batch install script and run it in two different environments

  • once under win7
  • the other time under win8.1

The same question is using the release switcher. Do you see any difference in using them in this different environments?

I have a situation where the batch script runs flawlessly under win7, but will not start in win8.1

Similar under win7 the release switcher works perfectly, where under win8.1 it hangs.

What are your experiences installing MGC software under win8.1?

Do you have any experience in the difference of the two environments and probably also win10?

Thanks for any help

Pyxis_SPT license problems

Hello,

I've been administrating a Mentor Graphics class for a short period, unfortunately I'm not the one who installed and configured everything in the beginning, so I might be incompetent in some aspects. The problem is quite strange: we have a server machine with the installed license and 15 client computers running Windows (for Expedition PCB and other) and Linux RedHat Enterprise 5.7 (Pyxis_SPT and Calibre). Expedition PCB and all the other windows products are working on all the computers including the server, no license problems occur. When we switch to Linux, Pyxis_SPT works only on 13 of the 15 client computers. All the computers are linked to one network via a switch, are in the same IP range and etc. On the two computers Pyxis Project Navigator opens, but when Pyxis Schematic (or Layout) is invoked it crashes right away. The log file from Pyxis:

//  Pyxis Schematic  v10.1_0.0   Mon Jan 23 08:51:39 PST 2012

//  License request for Pyxis Schematic failed.

All the environment variables are set and do not differ from the ones set on the working computers. The license seems to be working and it is available on all the computers. Here is the mgls_ok command output on the computer where Pyxis isn't working (license is granted for icarch and pyxschematic_c):

$ mgls_ok -pd 1997.07 icarch

Checking availability of "icarch".

License granted through "pyxschematic_c".

And here is part of the lmstat -a command output:

We have Microsemi tool license running on our server which includes a Microsemi version of ModelSim running the mgcld daemon on port 1702. We are trying to add a license server to the same machine for ModelSim/Questa also using the mgcld daemon on port 1717. My IT person said they are not able to make it run. Any suggestions?

Linux: changing from license server to nodelocked license

We have been running Modelsim on our Linux machine using a remote license server. We recently changed to a node-locked license and just received the license file. When I export values of LM_LICENSE_FILE and MGLS_LICENSE_FILE to point to the new license file location and try to run Modelsim, I get the error message:

Unable to checkout a license. Make sure your license file environment variable (e.g., LM_LICENSE_FILE)

is set correctly and then run 'lmutil lmdiag' to diagnose the problem.

Unable to checkout a license.  Vsim is closing.

** Fatal: Invalid license environment. Application closing.

When I run 'lmutil lmdiag' I get the following:

From the "put_server_name_here" you can tell I haven't entered a server name, thinking it's not relevant since we have the node-locked license on our system. I shouldn't have to run mgcld, should I? Do I need to delete the server section from the license file?

What do I have to do to get Modelsim (vsim) running on the new license?

Thanks,

Ron

At our company, we are currently changing our servers, both names and locations. When doing so, will we need a new ModelSim license file, or can we just go with the same file as before?

Obsolete format of vendor daemon line DAEMON

$

The license file I received from Mentor Graphics contains vendor daemon line with DAEMON keyword. It is obsolete and even not mentioned in the latest License Administration Guide for 11.13.0. Current format requires keyword VENDOR.

The problem is that old format does not allow to specify fixed port which I need to specify to communicate over firewall. The fixed port option exists since at least ver.7. The mgcld I received with software reports to be ver.11.1.1. Needless to say specifying "port=" after path to the daemon had no effect. I tried to replace keyword DAEMON with keyword VENDOR. It did not gelp either.

Does anybody know if new mgcld ver. 1.13.0.2 can take a fixed port to work through?

Do I need a new license file for that or I can just modify existing file?

Pointing Xpedition projects to .IPL files not in Mentor Project/Program Paths

Hi,

We revision control a lot of our files and as such we want to revision control our IPL setup file for the partlister.  We want to know if there is a way to point to IPL files NOT in the mentor paths.  We know the part lister finds the IPL files if they are in the project folder or the template folder under SDD_HOME.  Is there another way to have all of our projects default to the same IPL files on a server?

Example 5 - Using a Recursive Procedure to Write a Layout Hierarchy

Calibre® DESIGNrev™ Reference Manual, v2015.3 43

• Recursive procedures.

• Local versus global variables.

Procedure

1. Copy the following script into a text file named hier_dump.tcl. Refer to the Results for

explanations regarding the comments, procedures, and variables used in this example.

##############################################################

# PROC: dump_hier

# L = layout object name

# F = file to dump hierarchy to

# C = cell to begin dumping from, "" means use topcell

# Indent = string to format the hierarchy

##############################################################

proc dump_hier { L F {C ""} {Indent ""} } {

if {$C == ""} {

set C [$L topcell]

}

puts $F "$Indent --> $C"

append Indent " "

foreach child [$L children $C] {

dump_hier $L $F $child $Indent

}

}

#

# Step 1: open the layout

#

set layout [layout create std_.gds]

Does xSD replace Fablink

$

We have products with multiple boards in them and currently we use Fablink to combine these into a single panel for fabrication.

Does xSD replace this method?

As a limitation with our current method is that the fablink panel only contains dumb data of the individual pcbs and we cannot get a single part list from it for the whole panel.

Think with xSD this would enable us to get a single part list of the whole design.

Any thoughts, tips and hints from current xSD users about how useful this tool is would be welcome.

Integrated flow parts creation when Access Database already created

$

I am building my first libraries for my first Pads design. I chose to with integrated flow because this is direction that Mentor seems to be taking Pads in the future. I bypassed netlist flow in its entirety since I don't need two ways to do things.

I have created a central library in which I have created my symbols and decals. I have created an Access database in which I have created a couple dozen tables with several hundred parts. This was not as bad as it sounds as I imported parts from our company PDM system so that part currently in our system are in my xDx databook. I added fields for symbol, decal, value, part number, part name, and part label. I configured the xDx Databook to map parametric data appropriately for our design process.all of this seemed pretty straight forward as I had done a similar process at a previous company using Orcad CIS and Allegro.

Then I went through each symbol and and directly assigned pin number in the symbol library. This was tedious, but it is complete now.. I am able to import the parametric data from the databook into the schematic ant it all looks good until run packager. Then I get an error such as:

There is no Part Number: 5031821852 in the Parts
DataBase for symbols with Part Name: USDNORM8CKTE and Part Label: 5031821852.
[Please add the Part Number to the PDB either directly
or by having the project file point to a PDB that contains it.]

I get an error specific to every part in my databook. I read a previous post that talks about using migrator and the library tools to get from existing parts to a new access database. I need to go the other direction. I need to go from database to parts library. Is there a way to do this without manually creating hundreds of parts in the xDM library tool?

I assumed that individual parts were not needed in the central library as they were fully defined in the access database. I went back to the PADSVX_ODA_Starter_Libraries aand I found that they do have parts defined in the CL and in the DataBook database. What is the purpose of having parts defined in both places?

Thanks, Russ Troxel
