Pads Layout 9.5 split planes

$

I inherited a layout that had 2 planes on a layer. I am trying to add one more plane area.

Originally the layer was defined as "no plane". The two power planes on it were defined as

"plane hatch outline".

I created a new "copper pour" initially and could not get it to fill with the hatch or flood options.

I then set the layer as a "split/mixed" and defined the nets that connect to it.

The two planes I inherited are still "plane hatch outline" and still flood just fine.

The new one which is now set as a "plane area" still will not flood or hatch.

I have been through the tutorial and searched google.

I may not have given enough information here for anyone to tell me how to get the new plane area to flood.

If not please ask and I will answer.

If you know what I have done wrong please let me know.

Thank you

Tony

Can't copy a block in nav tree due to Duplicate IDs err

Hello,

I am using PADS9.5 DxD Schematic Editor. I am trying to copy a block under navigation tree but got error "Can't complete the operation" and I checked my output window, there is an error message "Error 1296: Duplicate IDs dectected. Run DxD Diagnoastics to fix the problem". I ran DxD Diagnostics and saw no Internal ID duplication error. I also tried to find the explanation of the error message under the list of errors but there is no such number. Did anyone see the same problem before?

Thanks

Hi All,

is it possible to automatically create TOC(table of content)  of a Dxdesigner project ?

In my design I'm using a XIlinx kintex ultrascale FPGA in 676 package. is it possible to extract the net name and pin number from the design/symbol/schematic in order to use it to build the Xilnx xdc file?

Many thanks

Variant Manager Automation Problem EEVX.1

Hello,

I used in EE7.9.5 a script for generating the Variant Schematics PDFs and Partlists.

I changed now as described in the EEVM Automation section to "MGCVARIANTGUI.MGCVariantGUICtrl.2"

But the following code does not work - since following error comes up:

Variable not defined => eVMOperNone.

For each vmCompMod in VmDocObj.ComponentModifications(var.Name)

  if vmCompMod.Operation = eVMOperNone then

  end if

next

The same code works in EE7.9.5 - whats wrong?

I am trying to use PartQuest within PADS Layout to download decals from Digikey. This feature worked when I first installed the DX.1 release. It has stopped working. Now when I open PADS > Tools and click on Import PartQuest Parts, I get a Windows Script Host error message box shown below. Any suggestions as to where to start fixing this?

Thanks,

Carl

ERROR 5619: Unable to open file error

I am trying to generate a netlist from an older design.  When I try to run the PCB Interface tool it gives me the error 5619 and says that it cannot open the project directory.  This project had no errors and generated a netlist just a couple days ago.  I have not made any project changes so I cannot figure out why it can no longer open the file.  Diagnostics and updates are all good.  What is causing this error?

How to add copper pours to the PCB

Hi ,

I am very new to xpedition tools. It will be great, if someone can guide me to a good tutorial page. My question is,

I am trying to add copper pours to top and bottom layers of my simple PCB. After setting visibility of planes, all I get is this dotted pattern without any clearance between pads, traces and the plane. What is the correct way to add a copper pour and to view it?

Thank you

Cannot re-assign Plane Class to Plane Shape using Automation

$

Hello All,

I need to reset the OVERRIDE status from all Plane Shapes having such status on PCB. For this, I simply re-assign the original Plane Class to such Plane Shapes:

For Each shapeObj In doc.PlaneShapes

    If (shapeObj.PlaneClass.HasOverrides) Then

       For Each classObj In doc.PlaneClasses

           If (classObj.Name = shapeObj.PlaneClass.Name) Then

shapeObj.PlaneClass = classObj 'The surprising error "Object doesn't support this property or method: shapeObj.PlaneClass"

              Exit For

           End If

       Next

    End If

Next

However, according to documentation, shapeObj.PlaneClass has  Read/Write access.

Can anybody explain me, What am I doing wrong?

Oleg

Partlister case sensitive?

Is there a way to get partlister to NOT be case sensetive? It's seems real absurd that Verification is case insensetive, while partlister is case sensitive! We turned on lower case for ITAR & EAR classifications (which MUST be mixed case), now we find out partlister seperates items with mixed case from items with upper case.

Recently I found a error in PCB routing. I will upload a screenshot of it. Routed paths are not colored in solid blue color. Why they are not colored in solid blue color ?. Is that any error ?

thank you.

VeSys 2.0 Storing data centrally - NOT on the "C" drive

I'm new to VeSys so forgive me if this is obvious, but I'm puzzled by the way data is organized in Vesys. It seems a strange design decision.

All our ECAD and MCAD libraries and projects are stored centrally. Is there any way to store VeSys data centrally, rather than in the install location, an obfuscated database?

I've read some threads about a tool called "Premigrate" but I can't find such a tool in the install folder.

Having to remember to output Xml every time I change a library item, or modify a project is pretty painful.

Cheers.

Schematic Variant:Replace part..

Hello,

We use dxdesigner and DMS database for schematic capture. We want to create variants. Removing component is easy. However, replacing component needs Library Data source configuration files(*.dbc). At Setting>Library Query Setup, I want to create and establish library connection with DMS database. I am not able to so. Can anyone help?

Setup Templates for constraints reuse

$

Mentor Graphics’ Constraint Editor System delivers robust way of reusing constraint data in form of exporting and importing data stored in encrypted xml file. In recent discussion with customers, we’ve found that that mechanism is rarely used and not well known by our customers yet.

Mentor plans to promote that capability and name it Setup Templates as they quickly sets up design constraints. We would like to hear from users if this meets their needs.

Setup Templates today allow CES users to export most of data from one design and  import it to other designs with the distinction that the main use case is to set up physical design rules like net classes and clearances. We have chosen .cts (constraints encrypted xml) file as an exchange file as the most secure one in terms of maintaining customers’ Intellectual Property with full data integrity on one hand and its flexibility on the other hand.

We allow users to reuse constraints but do not allow reuse of stackup definition as we believe not Setup but Layout Templates are designed to support stackup reuse needs. Note that importing Setup Template will not modify schematic data either.

During the entire process CES maintains data integrity and fills in missing relationships with needed values.

Here is the suggested way of working with Setup Templates:

setup templates process.png

•    Set up desired constraints once and store them in the Setup Template (one or more Setup Template can be created inside CES)

•    Before applying a Setup Template verify it and review results after applying it

•    Store\Manage Setup Template(s) in Mentor design or library environment (depending on customer’s needs)

Apply Setup Template – that is a step of importing .cts file (could be extended into preview step in future)

Setup Template import is available either from CES user interface or from command line to allow batch processing. User is able to set up more than one design using Setup Template import process, and the user is able to apply more than one Setup Template to one design.

After Setup Template import is finished CES generates a report file with data logs and eventually highlights issues for review.

If you found the Setup Templates flow useful or you have suggestions on its behavior we encourage you to post your comments into Ideas website…. Thanks!
